Scott shines on sophomore day with historic triple-double

The photo shows a basketball player in mid-action on a court, wearing a white uniform with dark blue and gold accents. The jersey has the word “Cavaliers” across the chest and the number 10 displayed prominently on the front. The player’s arms are extended upward in a classic shooting form, suggesting a jump shot or free throw.
In the background, there are rows of blue bleachers with several spectators seated, and a person standing near the sideline wearing a dark blue top with crossed arms. The setting appears to be an indoor gymnasium with bright lighting and a polished wooden floor. The overall scene conveys an organized basketball game or practice in progress.

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – No. 1 Johnson County (29-0, 11-0 KJCCC D-II) closed out its regular season home schedule while celebrating sophomore day with a 95-53 win over Neosho County Saturday afternoon.

Sophomore guard Layla Scott headlined the victory, securing just the ninth triple-double in program history - and the first of her career - with an impressive line of 27 points, 15 rebounds and 10 assists. Scott drained five 3-point baskets among her eight total field goals and went 6-for-6 from the free throw line. She now has 217 career 3-pointers, just one shy of tying Taylor Stahly of Hutchinson for second-most in Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference history.  She also finished with five steals.

Sophomore Kara Stricklin added 15 points, four boards and five assists in her final home appearance and freshmen Mia Adams and Anonda Ford also finished in double figures with 15 and 13 respectively.

Makayia Johnson finished the six points and Jade Warren added five to lead the Cavaliers bench.

Bauke Graulus led Neosho County with 16 pints, with Chloe Parker adding 11 points.

The Panthers kept the game close in the first period, trailing by only three points at 23-20. However, Johnson County dominated the final three periods to secure the 42-point victory. With the win, JCCC extends its regular season winning streak to 91 straight games.

The Cavaliers will look to complete the season unbeaten on Wednesday, February 25, when they travel to Allen Community College for their final regular season game.
