Scott makes history as No. 1 Cavaliers cruise past Highland in conference opener

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – Layla Scott wasted no time making history in Johnson County's conference opener at Highland.

Needing four 3-pointers to tie the program's all-time career record of 189, the All-America guard accomplished the feat in the first quarter, knocking down 4-of-6 from beyond the arc in the opening 10 minutes. Her early barrage helped No. 1-ranked Johnson County Community College seize control and cruise to an 85-29 victory, improving to 19-0 on the season.

Scott finished with 16 points, five rebounds and three steals for the Cavaliers.

Freshman guard Jade Warren led all scorers with 20 points, shooting 7-of-14 from the field, including a 3-pointer, and a perfect 5-for-5 from the free-throw line. She also added seven rebounds and four assists

Freshman guard Anonda Ford followed with 17 points on 7-of-10 shooting and led the team with nine rebounds, while freshman forward Mia Adams contributed 13 points off the bench.

Shamiah Johnson was the only Highland player to post double figures, finishing with 12 points.

Johnson County will return home for its conference home opener Saturday, Jan. 17, against Kansas City Kansas. Tipoff is scheduled for 2 p.m.
