OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – Johnson County Community College guard Layla Scott has earned her third-straight and fifth overall Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference Division II Women's Basketball Player of the Week honor, the conference announced Tuesday afternoon.
The sophomore All-American became the Cavaliers' career leader in made 3-point field goals last week, knocking down eight in a pari of double-digit victories over Highland and No. 15 Kansas City Kansas to open conference play. Scott now has 193 made 3-pointer over her two seasons, which also moves her into the fifth spot all-time in KJCCC history.
Scott averaged 17.0 points, 6.5 rebounds, 2.5 steals, 2.0 assists for the week while shooting 44 percent beyond the arc. She opened the week with 16 points, five rebounds and three steals in an 85-29 victory at Highland, then capped the week with 18 points, eight rebounds, four assists and two steals in a 103-51 rout of rival Kansas City Kansas.
Scott currently leads the conference in scoring (18.2 ppg.), 3-point field goals made (78), 3-point field goal percentage (.436), free throw percentage (.872), and assists (71) while ranking second in steals (47). Nationally, she leads NJCAA Division II in made 3-point baskets and ranks fifth in free throw percentage.
