OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – In a matchup of top-10 ranked teams, the No. 9 Johnson County Community College men's soccer team started strong but came up short in a 2-0 road loss to No. 5 Neosho County on Wednesday night.

The Cavaliers held the Panthers scoreless for much of the opening half before Keane Hazeldine broke through in the 38th minute to give the hosts a 1-0 lead. Both defenses stood firm for the next 42 minutes until Hazeldine set up All-America forward Callum Niven for an insurance goal with 10 minutes remaining.

Johnson County generated plenty of chances, outshooting Neosho County 12-8, but could not convert. Freshman goalkeeper Daniel Wozniak (Lee's Summit West HS/Lee's Summit, Mo.)recorded six saves on eight shots, dropping his season record to 3-2-0.

With the setback, the Cavaliers fall to 5-3-1 overall and 1-1-0 in Kansas Jayhawk Conference play. JCCC will look to bounce back on Saturday when they host Pratt Community College at 5 p.m.
