OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – The No. 2-ranked Johnson County Community College baseball team continued its hot start with a pair of run-rule victories over Coffeyville Community College in a Thursday doubleheader, winning 13-3 in game one and 19-7 in game two to sweep the home portion of the four-game series with the Ravens. The teams will conclude the series with a doubleheader Saturday in Coffeyville.
In the opener, sophomore Briggs Roe delivered a standout performance, going 4-for-4 with a double, a home run and a season-high six RBI. Roe doubled home two runs in the second inning, launched a two-run homer to center in the fourth and added a two-run single in the fifth.
Sophomore Colin Coonradt, the reigning KJCCC and NJCAA Player of the Week, gave the Cavaliers an early advantage with a three-run home run in the bottom of the first inning. He also drew two walks and scored three times.
Logan Groh recorded two hits, including a solo home run, while Ryan Bradford, Boston Bruce and Jack Jones each drove in a run.
Left-hander Liam Roche earned the start, allowing three hits and three runs over 4⅓ innings while striking out eight. Braylon Brooks closed out the contest with ⅔ innings of scoreless relief.
Game two featured another offensive explosion from the Cavaliers. Johnson County held a 7-2 lead entering the sixth inning before Coffeyville rallied for five runs to tie the game, highlighted by a grand slam from outfielder Colton Ruedy.
The Cavaliers quickly responded, scoring five runs in the bottom half of the sixth, adding two more in the seventh and closing the game with five runs in the eighth to secure the run-rule victory.
Bradford led the charge by hitting for the cycle — just the fourth in program history and the first since the 2020 season. He doubled in the first inning, singled in the second, blasted a three-run homer in the sixth and tripled in the seventh. Bradford finished with four RBI, a walk and three runs scored.
Bruce also had a big day, going 4-for-5 with a double, a home run, two runs scored and three RBI. Roe added a single and a home run with three RBI, while Groh recorded two hits, including a homer, and drove in two runs. Isaac Pamaran drove in four runs, highlighted by a three-run home run.
Ashton Hartwig and Brayden Geisler each contributed solo home runs, and Luke Wilson added two singles, a walk, three runs scored and one RBI.
Sophomore right-hander Max Waldschmidt picked up the win in relief, allowing just one hit and one run over 2⅔ innings while striking out four.
Johnson County travels to Coffeyville on Saturday, March 14, to finish the four-game series.
