OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – For the third time this season, a Johnson County Community College baseball player has been named National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division I Player of the Week. Sophomore utility player Colin Coonradt earned the week five honor following a dominant performance during the Cavaliers' four-game sweep of Highland in their conference-opening series.
Coonradt played a key role in helping the No. 2-ranked Cavaliers improve to 22-2 overall. He hit an incredible .727 (8-for-11) during the series, blasting five home runs while drawing five walks, scoring nine runs and driving in eight.
The sophomore opened the series with two home runs and three RBI in an 8-0 victory. He followed that performance with another two-homer, three-RBI effort in a 22-2 win in game two. Back at JCCC on Saturday, Coonradt added his fifth home run in three games and drove in two runs in a 10-0 victory to complete the sweep.
For the season, Coonradt ranks among the leaders in the Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference (KJCCC). He is tied for first in home runs (11), second in extra-base hits (19) and RBI (24), third in batting average (.453) and doubles (7), and fifth in runs scored (27).
Coonradt is the third Cavaliers player to be named national player of the week. infielder Briggs Roe was selected as NJCAA Player of the Week in week two, and Ryan Brandford brought home the honor in week three.
