No. 12 JCCC baseball sweeps four-game series at Amarillo to open season

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – The No. 12-ranked Johnson County Community College baseball team opened the 2026 season in impressive fashion, sweeping a four-game series at Amarillo College.

The Cavaliers' offense was firing on all cylinders, scoring 52 runs on 54 hits over the four games. JCCC collected 20 extra-base hits, including nine doubles, three triples and eight home runs.

Johnson County opened the series with a 10-8 victory, followed by wins of 20-8 and 11-0, before completing the sweep with an 11-7 win in the finale.

Seven Cavaliers hit .500 or better during the series, led by freshman Lukas Wilson, who posted a .538 batting average. Wilson went 7-for-13 with a double, a home run, seven runs scored and five RBI..

Sophomore transfer Logan Groh hit .526 and led the team with 10 hits, including two doubles and a home run, while scoring eight runs and driving in nine. Ryan Bradbury also enjoyed a strong collegiate debut, collecting seven hits in 14 plate appearances. He finished the series with two doubles, a triple, two home runs, seven runs scored and a team-high 11 RBI.

Sophomores Briggs Roe and Colin Coonradt each recorded seven hits. Roe added a double, a triple and a home run, scored eight runs and drove in six, while Coonradt hit a double and a home run and knocked in five. Boston Bruce and Jack Jones also hit .500 in the series. Bruce went 6-for-12 with a double, a triple, six runs scored and four RBI, while Jones was 3-for-6 with a double and four runs.

On the mound, 17 Cavaliers saw action and combined to strike out 50 batters over 28 innings.
