OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – Led by head coach Eric Horner, the Johnson County Community College baseball team was the recipient of the 2025 American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) Team Academic Excellence Award presented by Sports Attack, the organization announced Wednesday.
To be eligible for the ABCA Team Academic Award a program must have maintained a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.00 on a 4.0 scale for the 2024-26 academic year.
Johnson County closed out 2024-25 with a program GPA of 3.43.
The Cavaliers had 35 student-athletes – nearly 82 percent of its entire roster – maintain a GPA of 3.0 or higher last year.
Freshman Tristan DeRoshers, sophomore Ryker Edwards, sophomore Ashton Hartwig and freshman Rocco Loffredo carried a perfect 4.00 GPAs while Edwards, Josiah Golden, Jake McClure, Sam Novotny and Easton Roe were named College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District® At-Large Team College Division.
On the field, JCCC posted a 53-13 record, the second-most wins in program history, won Kansas Jayhawk Conference East and Region 6 titles, and tied for sixth-place at the National Junior College Athletic Association Division I World Series. Additionally, a record 15 players were selected as All-KJCCC East Division performers.
The ABCA has a long tradition of recognizing the achievements of baseball coaches and student-athletes. The ABCA/Rawlings All-America Teams are the nation's oldest, founded in 1949, and the ABCA's awards program also includes the ABCA/Rawlings All-Region Awards, the ABCA/ATEC Regional & National Coaches of the Year and several other major awards such as the ABCA Hall of Fame and the Dave Keilitz Ethics in Coaching Award.
