OVERLAND PARK, Kan. - The Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference released the 2025 East Division All-Conference teams, and a record number of 15 Johnson County players were selected. The previous record was 14 from the 2017 and 2023 seasons.
In addition, sophomore outfielder Bo Shinkle was named the Most Valuable Player and Eric Horner garnered East Coach of the Year honor for the third consecutive season. Shinkle becomes the fourth player in team history to be selected conference MVP, joining Doug Otto (2008), Davis Morgan (2010) and Dagen Brewer (2024).
Shinkle, along with sophomore second baseman Jake McClure, sophomore third baseman Carter Kelley, catcher Miken Miller and starting pitcher Denton Biller were selected to the first-team. Sophomore starting pitchers Josiah Golden and Sam Novotny, and freshman relief pitcher Luke Fricker earned second-team recognition. Honorable mention accolades went to freshman pitcher Christian Bobzin, freshman designated hitter Boston Bruce, freshman pitcher Hudson Byrd, freshman outfielder Jeremy Comer, sophomore outfielder Ryker Edwards, freshman pitcher Keston Holman, and sophomore first baseman Easton Roe.
Shinkle is batting average at .400 (74-or-185) with 13 doubles, five triples, six home runs, 44 walks, 32 stolen bases, 80 runs scored and 56 driven in. He leads the team in runs scored. steals and walks, is tied for the lead in average and triples, and is third in hits and RBI. He ranks first in the conference in runs and walks, tied for first in triples, second in stolen bases, third in batting average, fourth in hits. Shinkle has produced 20 multiple-hit games, highlighted by a five-hit effort against Neosho County, and 15 multiple-RBI games. His five-hit game tied a school record. Twice during the season Shinkle was selected as the KJCCC East Division Player of the Week, earning he honor in weeks six and seven.
McClure is batting .396 (86-for-217) with 13 doubles, two triples, 33 walks, 21 stolen bases, 73 runs scored and 39 RBI. He leads the team and conference and 11th in the NJCAA with his 86 hits. He also ranks third in the conference in runs, fourth in average, tied for fifth in walks, tied for sixth in steals. He leads the team with 26 multiple-hit games, which has him tied for ninth all-time in team history, and eight multiple-RBI games.
Kelley is batting .353 (53-for-150) with seven doubles, a triple, nine home runs, 44 runs scored and 46 driven in. He is tied for 10th in the conference in home runs. Kelley has produced 14 multiple-hit and 14 multiple-RBI games. In the final week of the season, Kelley was a one-man wrecking crew in a sweep over Fort Scott, particularly the final two games. In the final road doubleheader Kelley was 5-for-8 with four home runs, five runs scored and seven RBI. In the first two games he had three hits including a triple and drove in four runs.
Miller is hitting at a .371 clip (75-for-202) with 19 doubles, five triples, six home runs, 23 walks, 52 runs scored and 61 RBI. He leads the team doubles, extra base hits (30) and RBI, and ranks tied for second in hits and triples. Miller ranks tied for first in the conference in triples, second in doubles, third in hits, fifth in RBI and extra base hits. Miller has produced 23 multiple-hit and 17 multiple-RBI games, both second-most the squad. His 19 doubles tie for ninth-most in a season at JCCC. In the 11th week this season, Miller was chosen the KJCCC East Division Player of the Week after batting .533 with two doubles, three home runs, eight runs and 12 RBI in a four-game sweep over Neosho County
Biller has made 14 appearances in the bump, all starts, and has an unblemished record of 10-0. He has struck out 63 batters over 61 innings with an ERA of 3.69. He also has held opposing hitters to a .213 average. Biller's 10 victories tie for second in the conference and tie for eighth on JCCC's season chart. In the 13th week of the season, Biller was selected the KJCCC East Division Pitcher of the week after picking up two wins against Baker and Coffeyville.
Golden leads JCCC pitching staff and the conference with an 11-2 record. His 11 wins also rank tied for the third in the NJCAA. Golden has made 16 starts, completed four games with a pair of shutouts, struck out 90 batters over 76 and two-thirds innings and has an ERA of 3.64. Opposing hitters are only hitting .193 against him. Golden's 11 wins tie for fifth on the season chart and his 21 career victories are the most by any pitcher in program history. His two shutouts and 16 starts are both one shy of the season record and his 90 strikeouts rank 10th. He leads the conference in both wins and strikeouts. During the season, Golden was selected the KJCCC East Division Pitcher of the Week three times, earning the award in weeks one, four and 14. In the fourth week, he was also chosen the NJCAA Pitcher of the Week.\
Novotny has made 15 appearances on the hill with 14 starts. He stands 8-1 with 65 strikeouts in 64 innings pitched with an ERA of 3.80. He has one complete-game shutout to his credit. Twice this season, Novotny was named the KJCCC East Division Pitcher of the Week. His first honor came in week seven after posting a dominating effort in the Cavaliers conference opening series with Allen. The right-hander held the Red Devils to just one hits over five innings while striking out 10 batters. His second selected came in week 11 after he hurled seven innings of shutout ball to earn an 11-0 win at Neosho County, scattering four hits with eight strikeouts.
Fricker has produced a solid season as a top reliever for JCCC. He has 15 appearances with two saves in 24 and one-third innings of work with an ERA of 3.33. He has struck out 28 batters while holding hitters to a .193 average.
Bobzin has 17 appearances on the mound, eight as a starter. He stands 7-0 with 57 strikeouts over 49 and two-thirds innings, with an ERA of 2.90. He is holding hitters to a .173 average, best among the Johnson County starting pitchers.
Bruce is batting .385 (45-for-117) with seven doubles, three homers, 32 walks, 36 runs scored and 39 RBI. He has produced 15 multiple-hit games and 11 multiple-RBI games, highlighted by a five-RBI effort in a win at Amarillo in the second game of the season.
Byrd has made 17 trips to the bump all in relief. He has mowed down 47 batters over 30 and two-thirds innings, has two saves, an ERA of 3.52 and is holding batters to an average of .148.
Comer is batting .337 (67-for-199) with 17 doubles, four triples, seven home runs, 17 walks, 54 runs scored and 55 driven in. He ranks second on the team doubles and extra base hits (28) and third in tripes, runs and RBI. In the conference he ranks tied for fourth in triples, tied for fifth in doubles, seventh in extra base hits and RBI and tied for ninth in runs. Comer has produced 19 multiple-hit and 16 multiple-RBI games. In week 10, Comer was named the KJCCC East Division Player of the Week after hitting .467 (7-for-15) with three doubles, a home run, a walk, four runs and five RBI in a sweep over Labette.
Edwards is batting .368 (68-for-185) with 12 doubles, four triples, nine home runs, 22 walks, 16 stolen bases, 48 runs and 49 RBI. He ranks second on the team in home runs, tied for third in triples and fourth in hits and RBI. He ranks tied for fourth in the conference in triples, 10th on homers and hits and 11th in RBI. Edwards has produced 21 multiple-hit games and 14 multiple-RBI games, highlighted by a four-hit, five-RBI effort in a 16-6 win over Neosho County. In the third week of the season, Edwards was selected the KJCCC East Division Player of the Week.
Holman is putting up numbers that rank him as one of the top closers in the county. He leads the conference and NJCAA with 11 saves this season, which is just one shy of the program record. The right-hander has made 22 appearances and has 68 strikeouts over 52 and two -thirds innings. His totals for innings pitched and strikeouts are most among JCCC's relievers and his 68 strikeouts are second-most among all pitchers. He also stands 3-0.
Roe is batting .310 (61-for-197) with 14 doubles, a triple, 10 home runs, 30 walks, 57 runs scored and 59 RBI. He leads the team in home runs, ranks second in RBI and third in doubles and extra base hits (25). He has produced 18 multiple-hit games and leads the team with 18 multiple-RBI games highlighted by a six-RBI effort in a win at Amarillo in the third game of the season. In that opening series, Roe hit .571 (8-for-14) with two doubles, a triple, four home runs, six runs scored while driving in 10. That effort earned him the KJCCC East Division and NJCAA Player of the Week. In the conference standings, Roe ranks sixth in the RBI, tied for eighth in home runs and extra base hits and tied for 10th in doubles.
