OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – Johnson County Community College freshman designated hitter Nick Iannantone and freshman lefthanded starting pitcher Max Chapman were among the 26 players selected to the NJCAA All-Region VI Baseball Team for 2021. Iannantone earned first-team honors, Chapman was a second-team selection. Both players were named to the Kansas Jayhawk Conference East Division first-team earlier this year.
Iannantone led the conference and ranked fourth in the NJCAA with a batting average of .474. His .474 average also ranks as the seventh-best in team history. He was 81-for-171 with 18 doubles, two triples, eight home runs, 62 runs scored and 56 driven in. Iannantone led the team in hits, doubles, and tied for the lead in RBI. He also led the team with 29 multiple-hit games and tied for second with 16 multiple-RBI games. His 29 multi-hit games tie for the third most in a season at JCCC. He ranked fourth in the conference in hits, eighth in doubles and fourth in on-base percentage (.540). In a 36-4 win over Rockhurst, Iannaontone tied his personal high and a team record with five hits, including three doubles, five runs and seven RBI. His three doubles tied a team single-game record, and his seven RBI were one shy of the game record.
Chapman made 13 appearances on the hill, seven as a starter. He finished 4-2 with a save, and had a team-high 72 strikeouts in 52.2 innings pitched. His 72 strikeouts tied for ninth in the conference. Chapman led the starting staff at JCCC with an earned run average of .273, and he held opposing hitters to an average of .229.
