Cavaliers take three of four games in series with Allen

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – The 10-ranked Johnson County baseball team took three-of-four games in the series with Allen Community College over the weekend, and remain in first place in the East Jayhawk Conference with a record o 21-3. They stand 37-4 overall.   JCCC posted wins of 4-2, 6-4 and 19-8. Allen avoided a sweep, taking the final game 12-2. 

In the opener, Jake Grauberger hit a double and home run and drove in two runs to lead the offense. Nick Iannantone collected two hits, including a double, and scored a run, and Quinton Hall and Jackson Galloway each drove in one run. 

Right-hand pitcher Matt Ronnebuam improved to 7-0 on the season with a 4-2 win over Allen last week. He scattered seven hits over 6.2 innings, allowing two runs, one earned. He did not walk a batter and struck out six. He also lowered he league leading ERA to 2.58. 

In the second game, Hall had two RBI along with Brevon Lee, and Grauberger was 2-for-4 and scored two runs. 

Left-hander Max Chapman picked up the victory. He allowed three runs off four hits, walked three and struck out seven in six innings of work.  Right-hander Danny Trehey followed with five strikeouts in 2.1 innings and left-hander CC Crain struck out the final batter to earn his fourth save of the season. 

In the first game on Sunday, and third of the series, the Cavaliers scored 10 runs in the first, five in the third and four in the fourth to win in five innings. 

The Cavaliers belted six home runs in the game, two each off the bats of Iannantone and Hall, and one from both Grauberger and Gallloway. Iannantone and Grauberger each drove in three runs, along with Alex Austin, and Hall and Galloway both plated two runners. 

Left-hander Jay Long improved to 4-0. He allowed three runs, one earned, and struck out six in his four innings pitched. 

In the final game, Allen's four pitchers held the Johnson County line-up to just five hits and two runs, and their offense scored a run in each of the first five innings, to earn the 12-2 win and avoid a four-game sweep. 

Hall and Galloway accounted for JCCC's two runs driven in. 

The Cavaliers play their final non-conference game of the season on Tuesday, April 27, when they travel to Benedictine College for a nine-inning game.  They return home Thursday, April 29,  to hose Coffeyville in the first two games of a four-game series.
