Record day for Cavaliers in twin bill sweep over Rockhurst JV

OVERLALND PARK, Kan. – The Johnson County baseball team plastered Rockhurst JV pitching for 61 runs in a doubleheader sweep on Saturday at the JCCC baseball complex. The Cavaliers open the twin bill with 25-1 victory (box), and followed with a record-setting 36-4 win (box).

The 36 runs set a new single game record, and 61 combines runs set a new record in a doubleheader. The 32-run margin in the second game tied a team record. 

In the opener, seven players had two or more hits, and eight players produced multiple RBI. 

Ben Kobel was 4-for-4, scored four runs and drove in two. Anthony Slaughter had a single, two doubles, scored twice and drove in a run. Nate Stevens had a home run, sacrifice fly and drove in four. Jake Grauberger had a home run and two RBI. Bryce Mitchell had a double and home run and two RBI. Quinton Hall had two hits and drove in three. Tyson Cheatham drove in four with two hits. Jaxson Wentworth had two singles and two driven in and Isaiah Cohens drove in two runs. 

Rene Ramos pitched the first two innings to pick up his third win of the season. Maverick Hanna, Matt Olson and Garrett Stoll pitched the final three innings and did not allow a run. 

In the second game, JCCC again had multiple hitting stars, but Nick Iannantone, Wyatt Morgan and Wentworth really stood out. 

Iannantone was 5-for-5 with three doubles, five runs scored and drove in seven runs. His five hits, three doubles and five runs tie the Cavaliers' single-game records. His seven RBI were just one shy of the game mark. 

Morgan also etched his name in the annuals at JCCC collecting five hits, including two home runs and a triple. He also drove in six runs. His two homers were just one of the single-game mark, and his six RBI ties for 13th all-time. He also scored six runs, setting a new single-game record. 

Wentworth was 4-for-4 with two home runs and double. He also drove in seven runs, one shy of JCCC's game record. His two home runs were also one shy of the game mark. 

Other key efforts were turned in by Davis Blair (2 hits, HR, 3 runs, 4 RBI); Jackson Galloway (2 doubles, 3 runs, 3 RBI) and Brayden Sites (3 hits, 3 runs, 2 RBI) 

Danny Trehey got the start and his first win of the season. He allowed a run and struck out three in his one inning of work. 

Five other pitchers combined to pitch the final six innings. Paul Rector was the only one to hurl two innings in the game. He allowed one run and struck out five batters. 

The Cavaliers (10-0) open up conference play on Thursday when they host Labette (2-5) in the first two games of a four-game series.  JCCC will travel to Parsons, Kan., on Saturday to finish the series.
