Cohens signs with Gonzaga University for 2021-22

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – Johnson County Community College freshman infielder Isaiah Cohens (Goddard HS/Wichita, Kan.) has signed a national letter-of-intent to continue his baseball career with the Gonzaga University coached by Mark Matchtolf. Gonzaga is a NCAA Division I program and a member of the West Coast Conference. Matcholf is a three-time WCC Coach of the Year and sits as the second winningest coach in program history with a career record of 487-397-2. Cohens will join the Bulldogs' program in the fall of 2021. 

In last spring's shortened season due to COVID-19, Cohens played in 11 games, four as a starter. He batted .500 (10-for-20) with three doubles, a triple, eight runs scored and four runs driven in. Cohens had three multiple-hit games, one multiple-RBI game. He also drew seven free passes. 

Cohens is also an outstanding student, earning JCCC student-athlete academic honors in the fall 2019 semester, and NJCAA All-Academic second-team honors in the spring 2020 with a grade point average between 3.80-3.99. 

At Goddard High School, Cohens was a four-year starter for coach Darrin Fisher. He was a two-time Kansas 5A All-State selection, earning second-team as a junior and honorable mention as a senior. Cohens was also at three-time All-Ark Valley Chisholm Trail League performer.
