JCCC men’s basketball moves into top 5 in NJCAA D-II national rankings

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – For the first time since November 27, 2023, the Johnson County Community College men's basketball team is ranked in the top five of the NJCAA Division II Poll. The Cavaliers moved one spot in this week's poll to No. 5 behind Parkland College, Kirkwood Community College, Pima Community College and Des Moines Area Community College.

Rand Chappell, now in his sixth year at the helm, has guided the Cavaliers to 18 top-five rankings, after they had 28 total before to his hiring.  JCCC has been nationally ranked in 32 consecutive polls and in 65-of-77 during Chappell's tenure.

Johnson County is off to a 7-0 start to the 2025-26 season. They rank fourth nationally in points scored (685), 16th in points per game (97.9), 14th in field goal percentage (53.1), 15th in free throw percentage (75.0), sixth in points allowed per game (61.1), sixth in opponents' field goal percentage (36.1) and eighth in opponents' 3-point field goal percentage (23.4).

Individually sophomore Aidan Wing leads JCCC averaging 17.4 points per game while shooting a blistering 64 percent from the field. Sophomore Joey Robinson (15.4), freshman Avian Webb (14.1) and sophomore Tavian Cruse (13.4) also are averaging double figures scoring.

Johnson County is in action twice this week at home Tuesday, November 18  against Central Community College and Friday, November 21 against Chandler-Gilbert Community College.
