JCCC sweeps KJCCC D-II Week 8 softball honors

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – After picking up a road doubleheader sweep over Cowley to remain undefeated in conference play, the Johnson County Community College softball has swept the week eight Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference Division II Softball Player of the Pitcher of the Week awards with Kennedy Glassford and Kyleigh Whitehurst each earning honors.

This marks the third consecutive week Glassford has been selected, and this is Whitehurst second selection this season.

Glassford delivered a massive offensive performance to power Johnson County to a sweep at Cowley with wins by scores of 14-0 and 12-6 last Thursday. Glassford posted a slash line of .778/.778/1.889, going seven-for-nine on the day with six of her hits going for extra bases (four doubles, two home runs). The freshman also scored seven runs and drove in six.

Whitehurst was nearly untouchable in the circle, tossing a five-inning one-hitter with three strikeouts to earn the shutout victory. Cowley managed just one hit and never allowed a runner to advance past second base. With the victory, Whitehurst improved to 9-1 on the season. The freshman also appeared in game two of the doubleheader sweep, throwing two hitless innings with one strikeout.
