No.12 JCCC softball splits twin bill with McCook

The photo shows a softball player in mid?throw on a turf field. She’s wearing a navy blue pinstriped uniform with “JCCC” across the front and a matching cap. Her stance is athletic and balanced—front foot planted, back foot slightly lifted as she winds up to release the softball held in her right hand. Her left hand holds a glove, positioned out for stability.
In the background, a large outfield wall displays big yellow?trimmed letters spelling “CAVALIERS.” The scene is bright and sunny, suggesting an outdoor game or practice. The overall moment captures focus, motion, and strong throwing form.

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – The No. 12-ranked Johnson County Community College softball team split it twin-bill with McCook Community College Friday. The Cavaliers dropped a see-saw battle in the opener 8-6, before rebounding with a 14-6 victory in the second game.

In the opener, McCook jumped out to a 3-0 lead with single runs in the first, fourth and fifth innings. The Cavaliers appeared to seize control with a six-run outburst in the bottom of the fifth, but the Indians reclaimed the lead in the top of the sixth on a grand slam by Audrey Reeves.

Makenzie Yoder, Reagan Neitzel and Katie Kolarik — the two, three and four hitters in the Cavaliers' lineup — each drove in two runs in the loss.

Johnson County's bats came alive in the second game as the Cavaliers collected 14 hits, including four doubles and two home runs.

Yoder drove in four runs on two hits to lead JCCC. She blasted a two-run home run to center field in the bottom of the first to give the Cavaliers a 2-0 advantage. Yoder added an RBI single in the second and later drew a bases-loaded walk in the third to force in another run.

McCook answered with four runs in the top of the second to take the lead, but Johnson County responded immediately with five runs in the bottom half of the inning. The key hit was a two-run double by Kolarik. JCCC extended its lead in the third on a solo home run by Alaryce Millard and Yoder's bases-loaded walk.

Millard finished a perfect 4-for-4 at the plate with two runs scored and two RBI.

Kennedy Glassford, Yoder and Reese Pattison each recorded two hits. Pattison drove in three runs, while Glassford added two RBI

Elsa Carrillo began the game in the circle for JCCC. The right-hander allowed seven hits and six runs, two earned, over three and one-third innings, striking out three and walking three. Glassford came in relief and tossed one and two-thirds of scoreless innings, surrendering just on hit while striking out one.
