Cavaliers Rally for Comeback Win, Split Final Day at Coyote Classic

The photo shows a softball scene during a game. A player in a white uniform with “JOHNSON” across the front and the number 12 is standing on a base and pointing both hands upward in celebration. The player is wearing yellow batting gloves and appears energized and enthusiastic.
To the left, an opposing player in an orange jersey is holding a softball glove and walking away from the base area. On the right, a coach or team staff member in a navy shirt and athletic shorts is clapping, likely acknowledging the play that just happened.

GULF SHORES, Ala. – The eighth-ranked Johnson County Community College softball team showed resilience and firepower Saturday at the Coyote Classic in Gulf Shores, Alabama, rallying for a 5-2 comeback victory over Coastal Alabama-South before falling 15-4 to East Central Community College to finish the weekend 2-2.

After spotting Coastal Alabama-South a pair of early runs in the first and third innings, the Cavaliers flipped the script in the middle frames. Johnson County broke through in the fourth, stringing together timely at-bats to even the score, then delivered the decisive blow in the sixth with a three-run surge that put the game out of reach.

Katie Kolarik and Alaryce Millard paced the attack with two hits apiece, while Reese Pattison and Olivia Ellis provided clutch production in the heart of the lineup, each driving in two runs to power the comeback.

In the circle, Kyleigh Whitehurst delivered a steady, workmanlike performance. The right-hander went the distance, scattering eight hits and allowing just two runs across seven innings while striking out four to secure the complete-game victory.

The momentum was short-lived in the nightcap. East Central seized control early with a six-run second inning and later added five more in the sixth to create separation.

The Cavaliers manufactured a run in the opening inning and adding three more in the second to briefly keep pace. Mariah Herrera led the way with two RBI, while Herrera, Reagan Neitzel, Ellis and Pattison each tallied a hit. Kennedy Glassford showed patience at the plate, drawing two walks, scoring and driving in a run.
