0VERLAND PARK, Kan. – The No. 15-ranked Johnson County softball team swept a two-game series at Coffeyville Saturday to remain in first place in the KJCCC D-II, Division A standings. The Lady Cavaliers improved to 24-12 overall and 18-6 in the conference with wins of 8-0 and 17-6.
Freshman utility player Allee Brattin powered Johnson County's offense in the series. She had 5 hits in seven plate appearances, with three doubles, five runs and seven RBI. In the opener Brattin ripped two doubles and drove in four runs.
Sophomore first baseman Kaylin Watkins belted a solo home run and shortstop Macy Nigh, third baseman Sydnee Christiason and center fielder Lauren Roberts each had one RBI.
Sophomore right-hander AJ Elleman was masterful in the cicle, She allowed just wo hits and struck out six earn the shutout victory.
In the second game, Brattin had a double, two singles, scored three times and drove in three runners.
Christiason registered a single and double to drive four runs and right fielder Katie Enneking had two hits including a homer and matched Christiason's four RBI effort.
Designated player Desi Harrison also belted a home run, singled, scored three times and drove in two, and Watkins also was credited with two driven in.
Freshman right-hander Myel White earned a complete game victory, allowing six runs, five earned with eight strikeouts over the five innings pitched.
This week the Lady Cavaliers will play a twin bill at home against Hesston on Wednesday, April 27, then travel to Labette on Saturday, April 30 for two games. Both series are scheduled to start at 2 p.m.
