Watkins nabs KJCCC Week 10 Pitcher of the Week

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – Johnson County sophomore Kaylin Watkins has been selected the Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference D-II Softball Pitcher of the Week for week 10. 

The right-hander from Bishop Carroll Catholic in Wichita recorded two complete game victories last week for the Lady Cavaliers. She opened the week with a one-hit shutout with eight strikeouts again Allen and closed out the week with a three-hit 10-2 win at Fort Scott. She also struck out eight batters and she helped herself out at the plate with two hits, a run and an RBI. 

With the two victories, Watkins improved to 6-1 on the season and lowered her ERA to 1.49, second lowest in KJCCC D-II. She stands 13-5 over her career with 112 strikeouts and an ERA of 2.46. 

At the plate this season, Watkins is hitting at a .293 clip (22-for-75) with four doubles, five home runs, 12 runs scored and 19 driven in. For her career she is batting .382 (78-for-204) and has belted 17 doubles, 20 homers, with 71 RBI. 

Last season, Watkins was named NJCAA D-II and NFCA second-team All-American. She also earned all-conference and all-region first-team and was voted the team's MVP.
